HF562 Civics Education Bill

Civics Class may could be mandatory for high school juniors and seniors

Lisa Larson, LWVWBLA Program Director, testified on February 22, 2021, before the MN House Education Committee in favor of HF562 that would require a credit-bearing civics class in 11th or 12th grade. Lisa has been working with the chief author, Rep. Urdahl, on civics education and this bill would fulfill the objectives of having the civics course taught in the 11th or 12th grade when students are close to becoming eligible to vote. This remote hearing, and an accompanying article, is available for viewing here.
