Job Title: Communications/Social Media Intern
Reports to: Communications Committee
Location: Remote, with attendance at 2 onsite events
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours/week for 3 months during fall 2025
Compensation: $600/month

The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. LWV encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Position Summary
The Communications/Social Media Intern will support the League of Women Voters White Bear Lake chapter (LWV WBL) with public outreach efforts through digital communications and social media. The intern will help craft and share content that reflects the League’s mission, increases community engagement, promotes events, enhances voter education, and diversifies the League’s audiences. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or early-career professional interested in communications, civic engagement, or nonprofit work.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with LWV WBL Communications Committee to plan, create, and schedule social media content (posts, stories, reels) across LWV WBL social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
- Create Facebook Event pages for LWV WBL and local election events
- Design graphics and visual content for events and voter education
- Monitor and report on social media trends, analytics, and engagement
- Explore other social media platforms and develop recommendations for growth areas
- Attend and provide social media coverage of up to 2-3 LWV events (as schedule permits)
- Ensure brand consistency and alignment with the League’s values and nonpartisan position
Qualifications
- Interest and experience in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with major social media platforms and content creation and scheduling tools (e.g., Canva, Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite)
- Graphic design and/or video editing skills are a plus
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
- Interest in civic engagement, social justice, or nonprofit work
- Commitment to nonpartisanship and the mission of the League of Women Voters
